The pigment

Gaude – Reseda Luteola – is an emblematic pigment for the entire Mediterranean basin and was used in the Middle Ages by illuminators, who called it by its Italian name Arzica. From the 1st to the 10th century AD, from Egypt to Palestine, it was the main source of yellow-orange tones on silk and woolen fabrics of the large flower-decorated kilims of Eastern Anatolia. This pigment is known for its incredible biological properties.
