The pigment

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), a sacred spice in India, is a rhizome that has been cultivated since ancient times. It was imported to Europe in the 18th century under the name Indian saffron and is used to dye soap. Mixed with indigo it gives a green color. In Ayurvedic medicine it is known for its remarkable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
