The pigment

A combination of organic red pigments and plant alizarin from garance (Rubia Tinctorum). In ancient Egypt, the most beautiful queen, Cleopatra, used it on her lips as a seductive agent. Fabrics colored with this pigment have been found in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, in the ruins of Pompeii and in ancient Corinth. Alizarin is known for its extraordinary biological properties.
